How we commute?
(16/01/2012)
Results of an Exchange Quay Management Travel Survey have provided a valuable glimpse into the commuting habits of the people who work at Exchange Quay. Solo car journeys have reduced by 4% since 2007, with only 54% of employees now driving to work alone.
Exchange Quay commissioned independent transport consultancy, JMP, to conduct a survey to see how those working at Exchange Quay commuted and what would encourage people to car-share, take a bus, tram, cycle or even walk to work.
It showed that although only 10% travel by tram, 23% would be encouraged to use it if fares were cheaper. Other factors dissuading people from using the Metrolink were its reliability and frequency of service. The 7% of respondents who take a bus to work shared many of the same concerns.
Exchange Quay managment appreciates that a car gives a sense of independence and flexibility with some participants expressing concern as to how to respond to an emergency or even attending out-of-town meetings.
However, the City Car Club has a pick up point at the Exchange Quay Visitors Centre, which provides a valid alternative. Booking is simple and convenient and you only pay for the time you use the car.
The Exchange Quay Car-Share Scheme also offers a friendly and cost saving commuting alternative.
More information about public transport services, cycling and walking routes is available on the Travel Information stands at Exchange Quay. These also give details of cycle racks and show facilities available within the Exchange Quay complex.
